AIDS is a virus that doesn’t recognize any limitations, age, gender, religion, geographical borders, sinner from faithful partner, poor or rich. Honduras reports the highest percentage of infected people.

God worked his ways to train pastor Geovanny in Choluteca, he is a physician who treats and deals with people who just became aware of their infection. This has opened doors to the church in Choluteca to start a project to help entire families who are afflicted by the virus.

Our Casa Hogar Vida project serves parents and children who are infected, and also teaches the community to create awareness of how to avoid getting infected, and to rid of the stigma and discrimination against those who are contaminated. Here are the components of our program:

• Orphanage (8 orphans)
• Housing (39 built)
• Self Support Groups (more than 250 people)
• Education (3,000 students trained a year)
• Sports and Recreation Facilities

Karla’s . . . → Read More: In Memory: Karla Cruz]]> Karla Cruz, a 32-year-old single mom with four sons, passed away on  December 9, 2010.   She is survived by 12-year-old son, Jorge, who also has HIV; 8-year-old, Brian; and 2-year-old twins, Eli and Elias, who are not infected.

The Life of Karla Cruz

Karla’s life has always been extremely difficult, making her difficult to reach. She spent part of her life as a member of a gang, and lost her husband to a rival gang. She was raised in a home with an alcoholic father and, thankfully, a Christian mother.

Karla was tested HIV positive, along with her son Jorge. She was also diagnosed with cervical cancer category two, syphilis, and papaloma. The Casa Hogar team began praying for Karla and felt that God was trying to break her. The team continued to pray for her and show her Christ’s love.

Soon after she was diagnosed with cervical cancer, the Casa Hogar team began to reach out to her. They would take her to the hospital to help her with her medical needs. After two months without medication Karla’s syphilis was gone and her cancer had dropped to a category one. Karla told the team, “I think we should praise God for this.” Soon after, Karla began coming to church. Her face had turned from one of darkness and despair to one of happiness and light.

Karla also attended one of Casa Hogar’s support groups on a regular basis. She began taking care of herself and receiving medications, whereas before she would only think about her death. Not only did God change Karla’s life, but he also changed the lives of those around her. Her father stopped drinking and attended church with Karla.

In 2008, Carla became pregnant with twins. Her health was poor, and doctors weren’t certain that she would survive the cesarean section that would give her babies the best chance of being born HIV-free. The Casa Hogar Team visited Karla daily during her pregnancy, bringing her food and ensuring that she took the correct medicine every day. Karla’s health improved, and the baby boys were delivered successfully and tested negative for HIV. The doctors in the HIV clinic were amazed and said it was a miracle that both the babies and Karla were healthy.

Keydi was born with the HIV virus fifteen years ago. Her mother died of AIDS and her father suffered from the same disease. Keydi lived with her 72 year old grandmother , who makes and sells tortillas to sustain the family, but earns very little.  Keydi was a very happy young girl who loved school and her studies. Keydi’s dream was to become a teacher, but she did not live to fulfil her dream.

She accepted Christ with a Pastor from Cedar Creek Ohio and the CHV team had a chance to confirm her acceptance while she was in the hospital. Ian was able to pray for her around 5 minutes before she passed away.  She was peaceful when he told her God was there with her.

Thank you for your prayers and your support in all we do. For us it has confirmed once again the importance of the support groups who have rallied around carrying out various things needed before and after Keydi’s death.

Iris lives with her grandmother as her mother died of leukemia when she was younger. Her grandmother has to look after Iris and her two brothers. This is very difficult as she is getting a lot older and can’t work very much, meaning the family has very little money for food, clothes and housing needs. They live in a small house which is falling down, and half of the house is in pieces.

Cindy lives in extreme poverty, with her mother and older sister who is 15 and has two children. They don’t have a lot of food or money. The family lives in a little house with only one bed, so the children have to sleep on the floor. Cindy’s mother works as a prostitute at night and leaves the children on their own a lot of the time. Every week, Cindy comes to church with her brother Michael. Their mother has also begun to attend. Cindy really enjoys learning and always tries to go to school, but this can also be an expensive thing for the family.
